  • 2 Productivity Hacks
  • 1 Story to share and discuss with your kids

So without further ado, let's begin with today's Smart Parenting Tip.

1 Smart Parenting Pro-Tip: Let your children follow their passion?

I believe that the biggest game changer in the life of any child is when they discover their true calling. Most of the parents keep focusing on careers that can pay well, or classic 9-5 jobs are no exception.

This holds truer in present day context where in 21st?century, where in spite of thousands of new career opportunities, majority of parents still want their kids to be engineers and doctors.

I remember a friend of mine whose daughter was an extremely well pianist. After her 12th, she wanted to go abroad and pursue music as education. However, my friend wanted her to choose a safer career option and persuaded her to take admission in B.Sc.

She studied there halfheartedly and always felt incomplete.Result being, she returned leaving her education half way.

In this day and age, we should not pressurize our kids to become a part of rat race culture. Instead, we must let them follow what their heart wants instead of dumping our own career options on them.

First step to discover your child’s passion is to find out when your child is happiest.

2 Productivity hacks (That actually works)

  • 5 Second Rule- If your brain gets an instinct to do something, get up and take action in 5 seconds otherwise the procrastination bug will kill that instinct.
  • Never forget to reward yourself for the work you do. This will motivate you to work more and give a feeling of self-satisfaction.

1 story for your child: Don’t let other people limit your capabilities.

In a village, lived two boys, Ram and Shyam. Ram was 10 years old and elder to Shyam who was 6 years old. Both of them were chuddy buddies and used to spend maximum time with each other.

One day, as usual the boys were playing but after sometime they realized that they came too far and the village was left behind. After sometime, Ram's leg slipped, he lost his balance and fell in a well.

?Shyam looked around to see if there was anyone to help him but couldn't see anyone. Without wasting any time, he grabbed the bucket that was lying near the well. He dropped the bucket in well and asked Ram to hold it. After that he started pulling the bucket from the top and didn't leave the rope until he was able to save Ram and get him out of the well.

Both the boys were happy as Ram's life was saved but at the same time tensed. They were worried that both of them would get scolded on reaching home but when they got home, nothing of that sort happened. When boys narrated whatever happened outside the village, nobody believed them. Nobody believed the fact that a 6 year boy who cannot lift a bucket full of water, pulled out a 10 year old boy from the well. But there was an old wise-man in the village who believed the boys.

Villagers were taken aback by surprise when the old wise man believed them. The man was a respected netizen of the village and everybody valued him and his words. Villagers wanted to know the reason why the old man believed the boys.

The old man then told the boys that it is not about how Shyam pulled Ram out of well. It is about why he was able to do so. He was able to save Ram's life because there was nobody around him who could tell him that he couldn't do it or it is impossible for him to pull Ram out of well.

Morals:

  • When children are young, they have fresh and empty minds. They don’t know what they can do and what they can’t. They don’t know which subject is difficult and which subject is easy.
  • But as they grow, they meet people who put notions in their head that- Maths hard hai or science difficult hai.
  • The students grow up listening them and end up believing the same. And whenever they perform bad in those subjects, they make excuses – Oh this subject was tough.
  • But actually, the truth is that they didn’t study the subject well in the beginning itself because they had this in their minds that they will not be able to do it.
