If this piece of writing today makes you want to finish the entire read, it is a good blog and whatever I utter, would hold true for newcomers too. This blog post is a test of my skills and yours as a reader too. Before jumping on to the usual conversation about trips and tricks to a good blog, let us probe into the world of blogging first. Question yourself first, how would you understand someone you have just met? How would you make acquaintance with a stranger? You ask questions, you explore their lives, experiences, and background. Understanding a blog isn’t any different. You get to the origin of the blog, whether blog writing is an art or some sort of science? If it is an art, there are several ways of artistically approaching it. Whereas if it were science, you would require sheer knowledge and logic to grasp the concept.
Blogging is an Art
For most bloggers, blogging is an art where the artist paints whatever picture he likes, uses different canvas, colors, and hues to accentuate the feel. A blog post is a blogger’s canvas, where he or she could paint whatever story they like, create a drama of their dreams, and make the leaves blow in whichever direction it deems fit. Art thus has no boundaries of creativity. Blogging is therefore a den of a blogger where the soul and heart invest to create an impressionable post. You may come across posts that say 17 or 18 tips to an impressionable blog but there isn’t a definite answer to that. Let us all together see for ourselves, what sort of blog post would make us click.
- Put your Heart and Mind to It
Anybody who aspires to write a good blog must have their mind and heart in the same place. Coordinate your wishes and your thoughts before penning down something. If your mind and heart aren’t aligned or you are confused between what you want to write and what you need to write, you can never deliver a masterpiece. Focus your energy on writing from within. You must feel the urge to write and express your thoughts. That is exactly what an artist would do. Have faith in your writing and your passion. Always believe in your emotional and intelligence capabilities to deliver something worth reading. If you do not believe in your writing, how do you expect your reader to believe in whatever you write? Have this clarity of mind and heart.
- Subtract the Background Noise
Figure out on your own, what distracts you? The negative thoughts? Confused thoughts? Nervousness? Pressure from others or your mind itself? Get rid of all these commotions or obstacles. These are just background noises in our heads keeping us from delivering excellence.
- Confidence Sells like Hot Cakes
Having faith in your writing and your skill comes with confidence. Being blunt about your topics, whilst keeping in mind your audience you want to target through blogs, being expressive enough in a productive yet smart way, and not shying away from revealing your opinion about certain things are the lookouts. Saying something with confidence even garners you enough limelight.
- Stay Relevant and to the Point
Being expressive and blunt doesn’t mean to lose focus. Focus only on the right content, right tone at the right time. Shifting your focus to redundant things would confuse your reader and they might want to turn to other blog posts. You might lose a potential reader and word of mouth marketing all along. Stray thoughts could linger in your mind, but a good blogger always knows how to stay relevant and to the point.
- Use Examples, Analogies and True Incidences
Nothing ruins a read more than a bland and spice less blog post. To keep your reader interested in your writing, use examples from the real world along with analogies to build your case and true stories. Anything remotely true is powerful enough to trigger a response from your reader or interest in your future blogs. Examples always back up your intent, strengthen your case, and make your blog tempting enough to read.
- A Good Title and Beginning Paragraph
According to most readers, an appealing title and initial lines or introductory paragraph are all it takes to catch the attention. You must come up with a title that has both mystery and drama to it. A mystery to capture the attention and to make your reader dive further in the blog and drama to create a little oomph character for your audience. If you succeed at that, your initial lines will make all the difference. Get rid of the usual phrases, to begin with, start with a poem, a satire, or a snippet from a scene or a quote from somebody famous.
- End Like You Mean it
The ending should be as grand as your start was. Do not leave your audience waiting for the big moment to arrive, give them the matter, the soul of the article, and then conclude with a big bang. Make your audience satisfied with your blog and make them feel that they have read a great author or writer. Always put an end to your reader’s mystery and never leave them questioning or baffled. Nothing bothers a reader more than an open-ended blog post.
- Imagine Yourself as the Reader
After having written the blog, go through the blog and feel how any other reader would perceive your writing. Did you like what you read? Has it made an impression in your mind? Was it impactful or did it make you want to read more? If you imagine yourself in a reader’s shoes you can understand how they must feel after reading your blog. Empathy is your friend here!
Yes, the stats, figures, and materialism do make you impactful, but nothing would be good enough if it doesn’t come from the heart and mind. Invest your mind and heart and let the words do the talking!
