Dear Friend,

In?The?Scarlet Pimpernel, a classic 1982 film of the French Revolution, the hero, a dashing English aristocrat named Sir Percy Blakeney (Anthony Andrews) falls madly in love with the heroine, the ravishing French actress Marguerite St. Just (Jane Seymour).?

In an early scene, he challenges her to deny that she feels the same. She says, “Please, you move too fast.”?

To which he replies, “My heart dictates the pace.”

That film showed the society of traditional France being torn apart by revolution, with the aristocracy literally losing their heads to the guillotine along with all their power and wealth to the common people.?

Our times are hardly in less upheaval. On this special day of joy, gladness, and gratitude for so many, and not only us here in the States, we won’t try to recite a litany of the ills, terrors, dreads and destructions we’re suffering and imposing on our human brothers and sisters and other sentient beings, even whole species.

But, really, it can seem like we have so much to be anything?but?thankful for.

And yet…and yet…

If you’re aware of our Human Sun HEART?Work and teachings, you probably know there’s something we affirm again and again about the nature of things:

There is one great HEART?that we all share, each of us in equally immeasurable fullness, which is coming alive and awake in, as, and through every human body and all of us together, even all sentient beings and everything that exists. Nobody is in control of this primordial, all-permeating, ultimate evolutionary event in cosmic nature. It’s unstoppable. Inevitable. Inexorable.

While we don’t ask anyone to merely believe such a thing, we also don’t feel at liberty not to proclaim it. And we have a little chant that takes these affirmations further:

The Sun in your HEART?is rising?

The Sun in my HEART?is rising?

The Sun in our HEART?is rising?

In the long reach of time?

We all become sublime?

The one and only Sun?

In our one and only HEART?of hearts?

That Sun in our HEART?is rising!

How long will it take for all humanity to “become sublime”? It almost feels absurd to propose it can ever happen. And yet the long reach of time can potentially mean far more than decades or centuries. It can mean thousands, tens of thousands, even millions of years.

Right now it feels like so much is moving far too fast in the opposite direction, toward more suffering, more evil, more wanton destruction. But sooner or later it just may become obvious to us all that our one universally shared HEART?"dictates the pace.”

Along with everything else, big and small, in our lives, our relationships, and our world that we can give thanks for, let us give thanks that such a positive destiny might even be remotely possible, and?— who knows??— maybe even unavoidable, inescapable, inevitable, inexorable, for all humankind and even all life on Earth. And who can know where, when, and for what other sentient beings in the universe as well?

If it is true that, as Martin Luther King, Jr., said, “the moral arc of history bends toward justice,” it just may be true that the spiritual arc of evolution soars toward glory, a brightness of shared conscious love, peace, and trust beyond what we can presently even imagine.

But not by flying us away into the ether. No, paradoxically by waking us down and out into the marvel of grounded glory. Such utter incarnation that no fundamental difference can any longer be noticed or conceived between Heaven and Earth, Spirit and flesh, the boundless and the limited, the known and the Mystery — even while all the countless differences and distinctions, individualities and multiplicities, continue to appear and pass.

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody! We send you all our love and Heart-blessings on this special day, and our deep thanks that you are alive here, growing, learning, healing, awakening and contributing, along with us and so many others in these strange, at once worst and yet very best of times.
