Let Time Change Your Mind
I didn't get along with my mom from when I was little, like really little, until I left my home country at 31. Oddly enough, the 7,000 miles that ended up separating us drew us closer. Not living in the same house and intermittent phone calls gave us the space we needed and the grace to understand where the other was coming from.
Sometimes, you need to remove yourself from a situation to have a top view of the chess board. When we're right in the middle of it all, it's easy to get lost in the chaos, be defensive, not see things for what they are. We get confused in the smoke the heat of the moment produces and we end up just taking blind jabs at whatever comes in view.
That's why it's important to take breaks. To remove yourself from whatever it is you're working on, no matter how important or urgent it is, including your wedding.
You might've had an idea of how everything will look like from long ago, dreaming about this moment since after your first break up in your twenties.
But things change. Time has a knack for tweaking your preferences. Big time. Take a step back every now and then to see if what you're planning still aligns with what you, the present you, wants. It might not be as elaborate or as pastel as you previously envisioned 10 years ago. Step back, regain your footing and open your eyes to see if what's in front of you elicits joy.
