Let Them Point - Means You're Doing Something Right
Wikipedia describes boldness as the opposite of fearfulness. Stating that to be bold implies a willingness to get things done despite risks.
While some may interpret that as recklessness, I’d like to offer that it doesn’t need to be. It is possible to boldly accomplish things fully conscious of how doing so affects others. It is possible to be fearless without being careless.
More often than not, bold people come across as intimidating, cocky or flashy. But what if we took a step back to celebrate this trait vs. being so quick to judge it? What if we respected how brave it is to walk boldly amongst people who resent it? What if we were proud of the ones that light the way? What if we acknowledged that some pretty great things happen when the fearless go after their dreams?
It takes a serious amount of self-awareness, strength and perseverance to reach a place in life where you are true enough to yourself that you can wake up each day, don a suit of boldness and strut out the door dressed to make a difference.
In 2016, I had the opportunity to listen to Pat Perry speak at a Lake County, Ohio chamber event. He said, “let them point, it means you are doing something right”. I immediately related to this as one of many aha moments in my life where something I heard had the power to all but knock me over. The kind of aha that stops you in your tracks and really makes you think.
The thing is, you have to actively participate to make a difference. You have to challenge the status quo and you have to embrace “Getting The Finger”. Why? Because average doesn’t cut it. Life is way too short to just show up.
It’s ok to be different, be crazy, be original, be creative, be happy and break the mold. Always do you and while you are at it, put a grain of boldness in everything you do. LET THEM POINT.
