Let Peace Begin With Me
The very best we can offer a friend, loved one or stranger is our own state of being. That will be the very first feeling their soul processes when they meet us. Are we generous, kindhearted, open-minded, relaxed, sympathetic and friendly? Or are we greedy, mean-spirited, close-minded, angry, judgmental and hostile? Everyone who approaches us experiences our feeling state. Which are you offering at the moment?
We may hear the words to the song, “let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.” Do we realize that it has to begin with us? All of the battle and quarrels between nations could cease tomorrow and we won’t feel one bit better if our thoughts are not peaceful. Peace does begin with us. Hundreds of thoughts will flood our mind today. Some them will be peaceful, some of them will be contentious. It’s not possible to feel peaceful yet give our attention to angry thoughts.
Think for yourself. Don’t become attached to other people’s emotional imbalance, anger, or instability. Work at restoring peace to the only person you can influence— yourself. It’s an illusion when we think we can change someone else. It takes all of our energy, all of our desire, all of our intention just to change ourselves. Let’s work on our own imperfections and let other people make the changes they feel are necessary. Choose to be happy rather than angry. Smile.
