Let the light in
I probably have 20 identical pictures in my camera roll of my room capturing the way the morning light hits it. It is perfect to me. I’ve started to sleep with my blinds partly open so that I wake up to the sun peeking through and hitting the walls around my bed and illuminating the flowers I always keep fresh on my nightstand.?I love the morning light.
I’ve?always been a morning person,?but?this last year?I’ve?really come to love the first hour or two of my day.?Ideally?spent?off my phone and computer with a cup of coffee in hand, on the porch if it?isn’t?freezing, soaking in the morning sun, and?listening to the birds chirping – it brings me?a?great?deal of?joy.?I listened to a podcast recently about the importance of letting the light in. More than the morning light coming through my bedroom window?in the morning, but the little things that bring you joy. The small wins that light up your whole day.?
I’ve?learned that when you pay attention and start looking for the light,?there’s?a whole bunch of it all around you. For me it's my morning routine, running into a friend walking on campus, driving up Franklin Street with the windows down, a good run, being in the mountains skiing, sweet treats, a phone-free walk, spring flowers, wearing a pretty dress, a new Taylor Swift album, a midday diet coke – what light these things are!?
There is certainly a lot of dark in this world?and?it often feels like?it's?outweighing the light. But light has a way of always finding its way in, especially when you're paying attention. I have a note on my phone called?“things to notice”?of little moments that have made me smile. Reading through it reminded me how so often it's the most mundane things that bring a great deal of light to my life. I haven’t added to that list in a while, but I hope this blog will inspire me to.
I hope you look for the light today! And tell your friends about it! It makes life a lot more fun!
Would?love to hear?what’s?lighting up your days. :)
