Let "I know it all" die from you

This self-praise statement " I know it all" is poisonous to continuous growth and career advancement. It is an impediment to success.

If you are a graduate and working or someone still searching for job out there, let me share this with you to help you overcome the obstacle of " knowing it all"- major impediment to growth and success.

To win, you need a team. It is team that wins a championship. It is individual that wins a game. You may wish to flash your talent alone, but you need companionship to keep it burning for a lifetime. No sport is better played alone but takes teams to make up a great sporting team. Never rush to speak your mind, listen to the conversation, test the instruction, digest internally, seek clarity, if need be, subject to the team, know what quality looks like, and involve together as a team. Such collaboration enhances learning.

Don't be defensive when it comes to learning. Defensive is next to offensive. It is abusive to own growth and development in whatever career you aspire to pursue. You would start to exhibit such attitude when you keep reciting the phrase, " I know it all". Or sometimes I heard people say, " I know how to do this, it is so simple as that". Such statement has an instantaneous effect to accepting directions from senior subject matter experts (SME) or someone equivalent. You simply become defensive. There is no breeding environment for growth and learning.

Listen more than you ever did before. Always remember that everyone is a student. Learning never stops at graduation. You are only transitioning to a new learning institution. The attributes of a student should go with you. A good student listens more to understand. Never exchange words for words. You are only doing injustice to yourself. Keep listening, build your knowledge from experts, asks questions to show interest in learning, and listen with your mind.

If we have been cultivating the " I know it all" mindset, we should change now than ignoring early warnings and alarms. You can do more better job than what you are doing today. It is done in the mind and change of mindset is the first change to make for other change to follow.
