Have you ever heard of a philosopher called Lao Tsu? Great guy. He was alive about 600 years and is said to be the author of a book called the Tao Te Ching, translated in English as the Book of Changes.
And in the book he often describes how everything is in a constant state of change.
The weather is constantly changing The day slowly changes from morning to noon to night. The weather is constantly changing, the seasons slowly change throughout the year and We as humans are also changing.
Billions of cells in our bodies die and are replaced everyday. Not just our bodies, but the way we think about the world too.
The thoughts that pass through our minds today are very different from the thoughts that were passing through it 20 years ago or when we were children.
But one of the biggest problems that people face is that they don’t like change. They like to stick to what they know or believe as it gives them a sense of security.
But the longer we hold on to things that are no longer working or of any use to us, the more frustrated and insecure we eventually become.
Because there is a time when things are useful and a time to let them go.
And you have to know when it’s time to let go.
And this particular teaching I think is just so apt for today because the world is changing so quickly.
We are going through a big shift and if we want to survive, we have to adapt and change with it.
The more flexible we can be, the easier life becomes.
So now is a good time to take a good look at your life and ask yourself what is not working for me anymore. And whatever that is, let it go.
As Charles Darwin said, ‘it is not the strongest or most intelligent species that survive. It is the one’s who are most adaptable to change’.
