In a conversation with Clarity Coach Linda Vettrus-Nichols, I referred to the Saturday Night Live skit with the advice, "If you drop your keys in hot, flowing lava, let them gooooooooo."
Forgiveness is giving up all hope of a better yesterday, meaning 'let go of the past' because it's gone.
I used to deal with my resentment, judgment, and anger by stuffing them all into a bag. Then, I'd throw that bag over my shoulder and carry it home at night. At home, I would build up more resentment, judgment, and anger, then stuff it into the bag. The following morning, I'd carry that back to work. Sort of like an Anti-Santa.
I didn't notice how much the bag was driving my behavior, which in turn drove my actions, reactions, and results.
I figured there was a better way to live.
I am now the author of the award-winning book The Daily Six.
