The first time I hurt her, my heart was broken. That scratch I left her with became a scar in her heart.

Then I did it again. Again, I did not learn my lesson. The second time, I was devastated. She will never be as perfect as others.

The third time was the last shot. And as I am writing these words, I can feel her cries bouncing in the walls of my mind.

All I wanted to do is not alter her beauty.

Yet, she is just a car.

Stop clinging on objects.

We all have been there with our cars, our homes, our smartphones. We spend so much time, money, and energy on them.?

Yet even if we own them today, most of those material things will outlast us. So we do not own them. We are just renting them.

She was my first true love. I can still see her smile and all the good memories that we built together.

She was ready to spend the rest of her life with me. However, I was not prepared to face the feud that it would create within my parents and my community.

I was young and abroad. I did not have the courage to overcome the fear of disappointing my family.

She went to build a new life far away from me.?

Sometimes I wonder how our life together could have been.

Stop clinging on people.

Your family or your friends just want to protect you. Unfortunately, sometimes you will miss some opportunities just because of the fear of losing them.

Family is more than blood. And a friend that cannot accept you as you are is not the most empathic out there.

When I started working in a big company, I was impressed by the powerful people at the company’s top.?

They are in every channel of communication in the company. In addition, they are well paid with so many other benefits which come with their positions in the company.

As I spend more time in the company, I see that most of them are male, generally divorced. Most of them hand over their most precious asset in life in exchange for temporary power: their time.

Once stripped of that golden power, their legacy in the outside world fades away as quickly as they have risen to the top, internally.

Stop clinging on to power.

Everything and everyone in this part of the universe has a price tag attached to them. Power is that drug that makes people high on their ego.

Powerful people who abuse their power often forget that power is also for rental only.

As a Muslim, I spent many years going from broken relationship to broken relationship.?

My love stories were always the same. I will meet a girl. We will be in a relationship. Everything was going well.

Then at the back of my head resides my shadow Muslim friend. He will always tell me how sinful it is to be in a relationship before marriage.?

He will ask me why I am always dating White non-muslim girls. I will always answer that I can date whoever I want. And I am eco-friendly. I like to consume locally. And the environment around me in France happens to give me many opportunities to meet White non-muslims girls.

Eventually, I stopped listening to him. I married a White non-muslim woman. And she is amazing.

Stop clinging to others' opinions.

Opinions are like the direction of the wind in a storm. People evolve, and so do their opinions.

Opinions are the cheapest commodity on Earth. They are like hamburgers. Everyone can have one. But you better not digest.

For most of my life, when I was in my early twenties, I was in “command and control” mode. I was naive enough to think that I could behave to make other people happy.

I wanted to control how other people perceive me. Therefore, I will put on a good face in the hope of good faith.

I was unhappy with all that was happening in the world. Yet, I was doing nothing into my circle of influence to change where I could.

I was not aware of the simple dichotomy of the universe. I was not aware of that powerful inception.

99.9% of what is happening in the universe is out of my control. Yet, I have the hand of the remaining 0.1%.

Stop clinging to outcomes.

Be it a project, a child, or an event, we are not in charge of most of the outcomes in our life. Things just happen.

The universe sometimes conspires in our favor. But, most of the time, it just goes along. Not against us.

What is sure is that we have no say on when luck will strike us. So we better acknowledge and move along in our life.

I like sharing my ideas. And often, I have been there. I share my ideas. “That is dumb!” is what comes from the opposite side of the table.?

I will turn green immediately. “How dare you? Who are you to judge me?”?I shout it in my head. After all, I am at work.

Because I have an idea does not equal that it is a good idea.?

So why does it hurt me that much when I hear rejection about my ideas?

Maybe because I attached too much of myself to my ideas.?

Stop clinging to ideas.

We all have ideas. Most of them are just crap. Now and then, we might have a great idea.

It is the case of everyone else in this part of the universe. Our ideas do not define us.?

We have to let our ideas go and live our own life if that is what they want. And definitely, we cannot control other people’s ideas.

Share your ideas, and remember that the loudest boos always come from the emptiest barrels.
