Let that flag fly

Back in my 20's, I worked with "Louie", who had long, and untamed hair. She kept it in a ponytail for work, but I always wondered why. Since I'd seen a Shirley Temple movie as a kid, I'd wanted what Louie had.
I still struggle to accept my hair, in all its salt and pepper glory. A former Hollywood pin-up once mused that women fixate on hair because we can't fix what's in our heads. I don't disagree. After all: there's a reason a woman's hair is called her "crowning glory".
Seems we always want what we don't have, or label it unfairly. One might take ownership - but be called "controlling". One might abstain - but be labelled a "downer".
Flying your own flag isn't easy, and it never was. Some of us like to fly solo; under the radar, or not at all. Nowadays, some work in an office; remotely, or not at all.
A disease that came from half-way across the world changed us for good. We're divided, and driven, and frankly, just plain pooped. A whole lot of things seem a lot harder, and we can feel whipped as a tattered flag. It might be a good time for grace, space and understanding. No matter what flag we fly under, we can sure use that.
