Let It Be

We are all so encapsulated about the new Nike ad with Colin Kaepernick. However, the ad was clearly designed by Nike with the idea the brand would drive revenue and obtain new customer acquisition. Guess what - that actually did occur as Nike saw online sales drive up 30% over the last few days. The ad for me goes far deeper than the content.....his position and Nike's motive.

Whether you agree with Kaepernick and his stance, does it really matter? I put this question out to everyone. So many people are using negative energy to dismantle Kaepernick, but in reality as a US citizen he is entitled to take a position...say what he wants.....and be who he is. You don't have to agree, however if it is protest that is peaceful (which it has been) who really cares. Let him be and maybe we can all learn something. He has taught me that it is possible to take a position of strength...be fearless....and not let other peoples opinions get in the way of your beliefs. He has taught me you can do that respectfully....be true to yourself.....and perhaps stand up for people who do not have the pedestal platform that he has. It is not all bad and you don't have to side with him to see what he is doing in some ways is positive. In fact, he is teaching all of us the importance to take a position of strength for the things we all feel strong about. Do it with dignity and ignore all the distractions. There are professional athletes that have done far worse, however Colin has been crucified from the league. Many NFL players have gotten into mischief that is reprehensible and gotten onto the football field months later if not days. However, Kaepernick starts a movement in a pretty peaceful way and he is the outcast....the distraction.....the bad guy if you will. He simply stood up for himself and others around him leveraging his platform. You don't have to agree with him....and how has he personally bothered you?

Good for him for having the courage to do what he did knowing full well he would get abolished from the league. Keep in mind, this article is written by a guy who believes you should stand up during the national anthem. However, I also believe you should stand up for what you believe in, hence Colin Kaepernick.
