We often have a habit of keeping our laptops and electronic devices plugged in for charging for long hours and even during hours of use and also putting devices into sleep mode for most of the time instead of completely shutting it down just to ensure that we save few seconds.
But are we actually saving time that's the question i was asking myself one day when i was doing some research and realized that it was just 30 minutes ago that my battery status was showing charge status as full and post 30 minutes i found myself on the look out for my charger. Honestly, for the first time when my battery when down from 100% to 0% within 30 minutes, i assumed it to be a technical glitch and ignored it and it wasn't until same happened consecutively for 2 days of first such incident that I questioned myself.
Being frustrated of not being able to work in proper fashion because of the battery issue I began questioning myself what actually happened, no laptop on the market has such a bad standby, even if you consider cheapest possible laptop on the market and in my case the laptop was one with highest possible configuration available in the market by the provided brand. And began researching for the possible causes for the issue and found out that Initially what seemed to me as some sort of technical glitch was primarily due to bad practices in regards of device usage.
And believe me it's no rocket science and instead it was a real life application of what we studied in physics during our high school and senior school. The cause to my problem was overcharging. Due to long hours of usage on direct current the battery experience overflow of charge which slowly starts to degrade the batteries charge holding capacity.
Eventhough, I know the cause it's quite late for me to fix the problem completely since my system is now old and so is it's battery. But from my experience I would suggest you to ensure that once your battery is full charged and you utilize all of it's juice before you plug it in for recharging. Another thing I would ask to make a note is no matter what atleast leave your system in full power off mode for atleast 6-7 hours to ensure healthy battery and also ensure your system is there with you even when you don't have a power source around you
