Lessons that we need to take from the US Election

Lessons that we need to take from the US Election

O.K. friends.....so Donald Trump is now President Elect and leader of the free world. We will be entering into the unknown with him as Commander in Chief.

One thing is very clear to me and that is that if the politicians in any country oppress the people for long enough so that they have no hope or can see their way clear of rising out of their predicament created by the ruling elite, they will revolt. In doing, so they will search desperately for someone who can restore that glimmer of hope that one day things will be alright again. This is how a man like Trump was able to become the next President.

Whatever you may think of him, he is no fool. He was able to seize upon the groundswell of discontent, focus on that glimmer of hope that the population was searching for and feed it back to them.

It is an advertising principle that I am only to familiar with: "Create the desire and fill the need!" Not rocket science, but OH SO EFFECTIVE!

There are many lessons that we need to take from this and ones our own politicians need to observe.

1. Govern for the people

2. Let your policies reflect the needs, concerns and wants of the people

3. Don't sugar coat the facts; tell it like it is because the people are not stupid

4. Be honest in presenting your solutions and policies

5. Be humble, admit when you have erred and make amends

6. Show some leadership that inspires confidence in what you are doing, so when the going gets tough, the people will understand that the road ahead will eventually bring them back to a good point where everyone benefits.

7. Share your vision; be clear and succinct with your reasoning

8. Create an environment where the people can contribute meaningfully in that vision and own a piece of it

9. Do not have an agenda that creates an imbalance in equity

10. Provide a platform that repays the efforts of those who work hard and commit to a goal of bettering themselves for their families and our nation

11 Lead by example and apply the same rules to yourselves as the rules you expect the people to live by

12. Earn your respect through the demonstration of your word and honour your promises

It is clear to me that the situation in America would have been totally different had the establishment governed with integrity, instead of showing just how corrupt, disingenuous and self promoting B/S artists they can be.

Hey, but what do I know....I'm only an angry Deputy Mayor!

Share many of your sentiments; well written Marijka. What happens next is most important. Whether Trump takes the opportunity to surround himself with learned people or only trusted family members and like minded vested interests, will determine that. All levels of government in Australia are adopting 'an adaptation' approach to climate change rather than the first line of defence, which is mitigation. So we are hardly leading in this area! Cr.
