Lessons we learn from Kids

Watching small kids growing up and the way they approach life, there certainly are some important lessons for all professionals. These are core skills that most of us have lost on the way to adulthood. Things a lot of us lost on our way to seriousness or the real life. Here are a few important lessons that we need to learn from the small kids:

1.     They are Curious.

Children are curious. They ask a whole bunch of stupid and smart questions unapologetically. That's how they learn and discover. As a kid, you walk through life and ask your parents all sorts of. Why? Because you’re damn curious about life and all its wonders. You were pretty much hanging out all by yourself the whole time. So, it’s only natural that you want to explore and never stop discovering. Something we unfortunately lost along the way while growing up.

We’re not curious anymore. We are now self-sufficient and seem to know everything already.

2.     They are courageous.

Sing out loud. Dance when they feel like it. A child’s life feels limitless because they are not confined by fears of failure or humiliation. They march forward with hope and determination because they don’t know any better. They haven’t been beaten down, they haven’t experienced failure. They embrace life and all it has to offer with open arms.

As we grow up, we become so conscious about our image and worried about others perception/opinions.

3.     They are Fearless

One of the most powerful lessons we can learn from these beautiful little creatures is to be fearless, for you and I know that they fear nothing. In the process, they get hurt some times like they touch hot vessels but what is amazing in them is that they do not stop being fearless but yes, a bit careful while touching it again. Kids aren’t afraid of anything. They get on that damn skateboard or bicycle and simply enjoy the ride. They don’t worry about anything. They don’t analyze the probabilities of getting injured, falling down or breaking their bones.

They just don’t care about it. They start to care about it only once it happened. Kids know if they worry about it too much in advance they’ll never do it. And when they hurt themselves it was usually totally worth it.

The best things in life, such as moving to another country or city, being an entrepreneur, riding a skateboard, changing career, letting go and enjoying life to the fullest require fearlessness. A life guided by fear will not result in stories worth telling.

4.     They Enjoy

Children enjoy being themselves and spread happiness to the people around them. They know how to enjoy life – period. They laugh often, goof around and don’t worry what others might think or say about them. They are just who they are with no filtration. In the daily rush of life, we forget to be ourselves.

We need to greet life’s curve balls with a sense of good humor and proactive fascination.

As we grow we let our experiences cloud our innermost desire to explore and be curious of things that are totally alien to our minds. We fear change and our mind is suspicious of anything that is new or against what we believe. These skills that come naturally to us, we end up losing them. These key attributes can help us overcome any challenges in our life…Lets learn from the little geniuses...

Amen! When are you with children, their enthusiasm is infectious. (at least that is what I have always felt personally). Children are "pure". When they laugh, it is because they are happy and when they cry, it is because they are sad. And look at us - we laugh at the most inane jokes our manager might crack - or he would be offended (and more importantly, our peers are all laughing)! And sometimes we whine because that is the only way to get promoted the next time around! As adults, we have lost ourselves along the way... the joys of rediscovering the child in us would be a journey - worth just for its own sake.

You might enjoy this talk : https://www.ted.com/talks/adora_svitak#t-85402 Child prodigy Adora Svitak says the world needs "childish" thinking : bold ideas , wild creativity and especially optimism. Kids' big dreams deserve high expectations, she says, starting with grownups' willingness to learn from children as much as to teach.
