Lessons Motherhood Has Taught Me About Running a Multi 6-Figure Coaching Business

They always say "you are never fully prepared to have a baby", well you can 100x this statement when you step into motherhood while also trying to run and operate your own business.
Nothing prepares you for the work, the stress, the mom-guilt (oh the mom guilt).
But also, stepping into the role of "mom" has allowed me to elevate to a new potential in my own personal growth journey and step into an even higher level of running my nutrition and strength coaching business.
I had made it a personal goal of mine (in fact, it was a requirement) that we would not grow our family until I could fully "retire" my 9-5 and be full-time mom and CEO.
In just 1 year of running our coaching business, we accomplished this goal. And by the end of my maternity leave, I was handing in my two-week notice.
Oh boy - that first year taking care of a baby as a new mom and also being 100% all-in on my business brought a lot of tears, self-doubt, and leveling up.
So mama, if you are in the think of it, I see you. But know that you've got this.
And there are so many beautiful lessons to take from this journey. Here are the ones that transformed our mindset and business.
Celebrate Small Wins Each And Every Day
You are your own boss, so you have to treat yourself how you would want to be treated as an employee. Especially when being a mom can often times be very "thankless" (cue screaming baby).
It is easy to fixate on the financial wins, but growth in your business and role as a CEO is more than just financials. And in fact, if you ONLY based your success on the sales - you will find yourself addicted to sales and crashing at every slow week.
Instead, celebrate the smalls wins every day. What did you do WELL? What went right? What self-limiting belief did you push through each day.
Just as your baby grows in small ways every day, so does your business. Take time to appreciate this growth. It makes the every day tasks that much more meaningful.
Model Mindsets That You Want Your Children to Have.
This one was eye opening for me. I am a driver, I want growth 24/7 (almost to a fault). And if I "felt" I was not getting that growth, the anxiety would spiral along with my positivity.
But I hated that version of myself. I did not want my daughter to model that behavior.
I want her to embrace failure with open arms. To see it as a sign that she is learning and growing. And to understand that growth is not always linear.
But that every lesson is beautiful and that it is OKAY to be vulnerable in the experience.
So - that meant that I had to change how I approached my day to day. By adding in mindset work, starting my day with positive affirmations, by scheduling in rest days, I started to model the behavior I wanted her to have.
You need to do this too CEO. Make time for your health and workouts, don't skip meals, break down your self-limiting mindsets.
You are building an empire and have the chance to show them a different life. That means you need to act differently in it too.
Slowing Down is a Strength - In Fact It is Necessary for Growth
Like I said, I am growth-driven. I want it all the time. I put insane pressure on myself to perform. And I deeply held the mindset "work more = more growth".
Yes - starting a business there are times where you put in the 12 hour days. But there is a different between digging in and fighting for growth..
..and burning yourself out forcing the success.

You started your business to have more time for the ones you loved - which means that if you are constantly trying to add more work, do more, force more growth, you are taking away from that dream.
I had to get super clear and intentional with what my role was in the business.
When we had the most growth, what was I focusing on?
What tasks brought the most joy and delivered the most growth?
Whatever those tasks were, these are the ones that I focus on and make a priority. Everything else, needs to be delegated. This meant being comfortable stepping away from tasks and trusting my staff to handle them.
It also meant that I needed to time audit myself and see where I got "sucked in" (for me - it is obsessing about growth on IG - my toxic trait).
You cannot do it all mama, you are not designed to do it. Doing a business audit and seeing where you can delegate allows you to connect with the tasks that need to be done to grow. And gives you the time to be with your family.
And yes - this will need to be consistently re-evaluated as your business grows and expands.
There is No Such Thing as Failing - Just Learning
"Failure is a necessary part of growth. I choose to embrace it with an open heart and mind. ??"
This in fact become one of my daily positive affirmations - because it is important.
With each new level of success, there are going to be new lessons learned. And in this, there are going to be times where you don't have a good month in sales, you don't meet your targets, your business will hit a ceiling when it is time to level up.
You cannot give up when this happens - there is a lesson from it.
Think about when your child learned to walk. They likely fell MANY times. They even got hurt. But that did not stop them.
There is something to be learned from the resilience of our children. They always get back up.
And you need to rise at every "failure" too. If you are anything like me, you felt the pressure of wanting, no NEEDING, you business to be successful.
So when when started to slip in sales, my heart broke. My self-limiting beliefs were screaming at me 24/7, and I felt insane guilt that no only was I failing my family, but I was spending time away from my daughter and not seeing success.
If I stayed in this mindset, we would have failed - yes.
But instead, like my daughter, I got up and rose to the occasion.
If you are hitting a plateau in your business, it means it is time to change the system, to adapt, to grow. There is a lesson to learn from this.
Oftentimes, the kink in in the system. Which means it might be time to adapt your system, you sales, your offer to ensure it can support the next level of growth.
Embrace it.
