Lessons that led me to teach and coach

When I was 14, I didn't make the district netball team that many of my peers did, and I was devastated. I felt disappointed and thought I wasn't good enough. Thankfully, my mom had a heart-to-heart with me. She told me I wasn’t ready, that my skills weren’t where they needed to be, but if I was willing to put in the work, I could make the team next year. At the time, I was upset, but looking back, it was the best thing that could have happened for me.
Determined to get better, I set my sights on making that team. I began playing more netball at a higher level, found coaches who were willing to help, and started training every day. Some days were fun and enjoyable; others were hard and exhausting. But I stuck with it. As I began to improve, I felt more motivated to push myself further. There were mistakes and harsh criticism along the way, which wasn’t always easy to hear, but I used it all to get better. Within six months, I was playing at a much higher level, and the following year, I not only made the team I missed but also an older age group. It was the most incredible feeling because I knew I had earned it through hard work.

This experience taught me one of the most valuable lessons of my life: failure and disappointment can be powerful motivators. I learned that I could learn, grow, and improve. With hard work, great coaches, and commitment, I realised I could achieve anything. This mindset shifted how I approached every area of my life.
?
I discovered that I could change my story, how others saw me, and even who I was. I played at 100%, without fear, and achieved more than I imagined. This newfound confidence opened doors for me, and I became driven to improve myself in all areas of life. I started reading self-help books, autobiographies, and non-fiction that could teach me new things, which I then applied to create positive changes in my life.

Becoming a teacher and coach was a natural progression because I love learning and growing. I know firsthand the impact a great teacher and coach can have, and I wanted to be that person for someone else. I've had amazing teachers and coaches who truly changed my life, and now, I want to help others unlock their potential and achieve their goals. I particularly want to guide teens and young adults to take the necessary actions to create the changes they desire.

As a teacher and coach, I strive to impart valuable knowledge, provide encouragement, challenge people to think differently or try new approaches, and help them grow. I love the process of learning and helping others on their journey to transformation and confidence. This gives my life meaning and purpose, allowing me to combine my talents with a genuine desire to serve others.
