Lessons Learnt for Polar Code Training Programs
Senior Lecturer Magnus Winberg participated in the Lessons Learned workshop for Polar Code training programs in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from 31 October to 3 November 2023. The workshop was attended by 25 persons from 14 countries - instructors, regulators and ship officers. The program comprised presentations, group discussions and field trips.
One of the main points was the IMO model courses 7.11 and 7.12 (Basic & Advanced Training for Ships Operating in Polar Waters), how the model courses have been implemented and executed, the use of instructors and simulation and the use of online training methods.

Meet Thomas Finne, Head of two Master’s degree programs at Novia UAS: Autonomous Maritime Operations, and Maritime Management.
Thomas joined us in 2018 and has since been a significant part of our team. He mainly teaches, but he also handles administrative tasks and supervises and reviews theses. Thomas is passionate about making an impact through his work. He enjoys pursuing interesting concepts that are of help and use to his students. He also likes to bring forward some interesting and current ideas in the research area. His commitment to providing quality education and thesis supervision is commendable.
In his free time, Thomas enjoys training, working at his cottage, and fishing. He also has a keen interest in history and art.
Did you know that Thomas is an accomplished author? He has published several works in international journals and conference proceedings on topics such as risk management, information security, finance & control, and business processes. His expertise in these areas is an asset to our organization.
