Lessons learned on the way to the cloud

Hey everyone! So, we just wrapped up our annual global sales team kick off, where we dive deep into what's been shaking up the world of AIOps. And guess what? Cloud migration is stealing the spotlight, especially in Europe, where RISE with SAP is making waves.

Keeping runaway BTP costs in check

Let's talk about the elephant in the room: runaway BTP costs. Picture this: companies diving into S4/HANA, following SAP's ‘keep the core clean’ mantra. Sounds good, right? Well, it comes with a price tag.

If they want to add a few custom steps to their invoicing process, for example, they will have to find ways to hook into the core, without disturbing it. The ‘keeping the core clean’ approach may avoid costly and expensive upgrades and improve control over traffic, which is fine, until you start deploying applications, writing new code, and are hit with other transition costs.?

Adding new functionality means venturing out to the edge with BTP, and suddenly, you're potentially insignificantly increasing your BTP spend without realizing it. One of our Avantra users got hit hard because someone left a switch on by mistake. And then trying to figure out where all these costs are coming from? Not exactly a walk in the park. Runaway costs on BTP have gotten so out of hand that some of our managed service providers customers are thinking about tossing in cost management as part of their package deal.?

Who’s minding the store?

And who's really minding the store with RISE? SAP rolls out RISE, and folks are thinking, "Great, SAP’s got this covered." Maybe not. Turns out, above Client 000, it's all on the customer. Cue the confusion, the extra bills, and the headaches that come with it. The nearly 40 page RACI sheet that documents what aspects SAP covers, reveals that everything above Client 000 is the customer’s responsibility.

Oh, and speaking of automation, some of our customers ditched their Avantra AIOps subscription, thinking RISE had their back. Plot twist: they had to come back to us a few months later. Lesson learned, right?

The role of AIOps

But fear not, there's light at the end of the tunnel. Enter Avantra. Our AIOps platform is here to help you - bridging the automation gap and keeping those costs in check. And guess what's coming soon? Avantra Air is the automatic AI responder of your dreams. It's like having a superhero in your ops team. AIR is a copilot that analyzes operational issues, provides detailed insights, identifies known errors, lists associated security bulletins, and generates code to facilitate further analysis or remediation. How cool is that?

So, while RISE with SAP is still finding its feet, we're right here, keeping ahead of the trends and adapting to make sure your journey to the cloud is as smooth as silk. Got questions or want more details? Drop a comment below, and let's keep this conversation going!

I'm hearing that the EMEA market is ahead of North America in terms of #s4hana adoption and #risewithsap negotiations. Will the US catch up or are there other priorities in this market? Would love to hear what others think. With the head start in Europe, ERP leaders have the headspace to consider #aiops and automation to fuel their migration projects and keep the lights on - while big projects are being planned and executed. Interesting times!
