Lessons Learned From a Flight

Lessons Learned From a Flight

I don’t love flying… But I love where flying takes me. I also love the lessons associated with flying.

The main reason I don’t love flying is that it is one of those things in life where I feel like I have no choice but to let go of all control and put my life in someone else’s hands.

As I reflect on our most recent trip, I draw a correlation to aspects of flying that relate to the process of personal and professional growth.

Here are a few:

1- There are always (at least) 2 pilots flying a plane on any given trip.

My correlation- you can get there alone, but with a good mentor or a business partner, your experience will become much more effective and powerful. #investinyourself .

2- The help button for a stewardess. You can push it at any time and get attention.

My correlation- if you surround yourself with the right people and build a strong relationship with them, you are only 1 call away from receiving the help you need to grow your business. #love #people

3- The takeoff is often the bumpiest part.

My correlation - isn’t this always true? When you start something new, the hardest part is actually getting started. It’s the scariest. You have to put the most amount of force to get lift. You have to full throttle your efforts. #10xrule

4- Turbulence is never fun.

My correlation - although sometimes turbulence can be expected based on measuring elements in an airplane, my experience is those moments are never fun.

In life and business, you will hit turbulence. You may see it coming, you may not, but if you have your seat belt on properly and tightened you can weather almost any element of turbulence.

Also- on most flights, there are only moments of turbulence, which is similar to complexities in business. So understand that “This too shall pass”.

5- The view can often be spectacular. I love it when finally getting to cruising altitude and seeing the beauty above the clouds.

My correlation - you often have to remove yourself from the day to day #perspective and look at things from a #birdseyeview to really see the beauty of what you’ve actually created.

We can draw so many more correlations, but here we’re just a few thoughts that came to my mind this morning!

The biggest take away from this post for me, is it's OK to not always be in control. Trust that the relationships you have made. Thanks for the good tip!
