Lessons Learned #7daysgivingback

Helping others is one of the most gratifying experiences in life. It is a selfless quest to make someone else feel good, that in turn makes us feel better for being able to help. This happens almost every day in a variety of forms such as stepping up to help a co-worker on a project without being asked, raising our children, coming to the rescue of a neighbor whose dog got loose, lending a helping hand to someone elderly, and on and on.

To have a week committed to finding ways to serve my local community was a gift. It is not often we are given the gift of time and have the capacity to use it to make a difference in the lives of others.

I wholeheartedly applaud companies that give a day, 3 days or a week or more paid time off to employees to do just that, go make a difference in the world through volunteerism and/or matching funds in support of donations to local charities. There are many companies that sponsor an entire day of giving in their community too. Businesses that support volunteerism and charitable donations will see a more engaged workforce surrounded by a thriving, vibrant, healthy community while providing one of the most rewarding experiences no amount of money can buy.

Be sure to post a story or two of your impact on changing the world. It is inspiring and motivating to see all the many ways we can support people and causes we care about!
