Lesson's to learn from F1
This weekend saw the return of F1 racing. An exciting start to the season for those that follow F1 and a great result for Lando Norris, another British driver who saw his first podium in just his second season in F1.
Lewis Hamilton the other prominent British driver of the day has to be commended for his commitment and the lead he is taking in the Diversity and Inclusion movement. Since the Black Lives Matter marches only a few weeks ago Lewis has been committed to making change in his own industry of F1.
He has gone as far as to launch The Hamilton Commission; Hamilton hopes to help drive "real, tangible and measurable change" in F1 and motorsport
He has been outspoken about his own experiences and the struggles he has faced from the bottom to the top of the sport around racism. Without question Lewis is the greatest F1 driver the UK has ever seen since the sport started or at least the most successful.
6 times world champion Hamilton has used his influence and fame to launch initiatives to drive change and I for one have been very proud and influenced by his actions of the last few weeks.
We could all learn from such actions and start to get things done. So many people have written about change over the past few months but how many of us have actually stood up and made any advancement. I am by no means suggesting that we all have the same influence of Hamilton but we can all start with small things. Bringing the topic to the forefront and putting on the agenda is where it should start for all.
I myself have been engaging over the past two weeks more than ever with D&I consultants and specialists to get advice and directions about how I can play a part in influencing change in my industry. I have to say not everyone has had the say level of commitment or excitement about making change. Many see it as a job that occurs between the hours of 9-6 max.
This is much more than an insignificant part of a corporate job spec. Let's learn from the likes of Hamilton and put our all into keeping this conversation going and getting our society from the bottom all the way to the top committed to greater diversity.

4 年Great article and this absolutely needs to be brought to the forefront and put on every companies agenda. As you say it starts with small things and you are doing more than that by opening up these conversations and bringing the D&I topic to the table around the recruitment process, thank you Jason T.
