“The world is awaiting your gift – all you have to do is show up with the right intention!” –?Lewis Howes’s words are what made the beauty of the power of intention so clear to me when I read it. I have shared stories of 105 people for the human library podcast “U n’ I with Rashmi Shetty”. The joy it brought out hosting each of them has been amazing. The in-person meeting with my 105th guest, Shukla Bose left a huge impact.
Last Friday was the annual day of Parikrma and what joy I had, being part of an amazing evening. As I watched the students perform & watched how much joy Shukla was expressing, I was so glad I was part of the evening. I did carry a beautiful memento back home from the evening. Every time I look at it on my work desk, I recall an evening when I got amazing insights that I share in today’s newsletter on the power of INTENT.
These are what I learned that evening to understand what sums up INTENT:
Important: Look for a cause that will bring about a change. The cause of education was close to her heart as she realized she was going to focus on Education for children where it will make a huge difference in their lives & how they will face the world! The importance of education was beautifully stated by Confucius, “Education breeds confidence. Confidence breeds hope. Hope breeds peace.”
Nonjudgemental: This is so difficult when you come with a privilege. But to go ahead & build this into a space of completely an absence of bias space is very difficult. The result was evident when the kids moved with so much confidence on stage. All of them first generation learners. Wayne Dyer sums it up powerfully, "Judgements prevent us from seeing the good that lies beyond appearances."
Thoughtful:?Margaret Mead said, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.” It was an amazing few who came together & made the evening colorful with amazing production quality that brought out the best in the children. The production team, choreographers & light, and sound were top-class. The actors were all flawless in both dialogue delivery & acting. Everything happened to beat with amazing props!
Essential: “The essential conditions of everything you do must be choice, love, and passion." said Nadia Boulanger. The mothers who spoke sharing their journeys were proof of what can be achieved when choice, love & passion translate. Truly there is magic in the difference that was created. They shared their joy in being part of the Parikrma. Their faith & trust in Parikrma & the transformation of the kids were stories of grit & success.
Necessary: Sitting next to Shukla I asked her how she felt watching the event, and she said she was HAPPY. It was such an unforgettable moment for me to see how she thought of making a difference in the children. Parikrma had surely done what Abraham Maslow spoke about,” What is necessary to change a person is to change his awareness of himself." Saw a satisfied Shukla in their midst who knew she had created a shift in the way they saw themselves as ENOUGH to face the world! When collar mikes did not work, the confident kids walked up to the standing mikes without hesitation to speak their dialogue, calm & confident.

?Team: Nothing is ever possible without a team that believes in you & your dream. Rightfully when the team came up to take a bow, there was joy in the auditorium & cheering claps with a standing ovation to the team. “It is the long history of humankind (and animal kind, too) that those who learned to collaborate and improvise most effectively have prevailed.” – Charles Darwin
The picture I shall cherish for a long time is that of Shukla’s mom fondly called “Mummyji” ?& that of Dear Shuklakka to what they mean to the Parikrma Foundation & a beautiful lesson on the power of INTENT!
