There are lessons hidden in the mountains

There are lessons hidden in the mountains

I vividly remember the magic and majesty of Himalayas when we first stood in front of them in 2015. On the flight journey from Delhi to Dehradun, just a few mins before landing, I happened to look outside the window

And lo! what I beheld took my breath away.

What looked like distant and dreamy clouds were the snow-capped peaks of the Himalayas. The imposing majesty and pristine beauty stirred feelings in me that have stayed with me ever since. While interviewing campus candidates at IIT Roorkee, or in the comfort of my home in Hyderabad, the mountains kept calling, and I had to abide.

What followed next were several trips back and forth to the mountains, in and outside India.

From the Narayanagiri hills near Bengaluru to Yosemite in California, to Mount Kailas, and finally to the Everest base camp, the journey has been extraordinary. The mountains have humbled me and transformed me into a better human being.

Nature trails around the forests at the foothills, ice cold streams that gurgled while you sipped hot tea, and all the while the snowcapped peaks standing silent sentinel to the world around.

It shaped my perspective of life and taught me the power of purpose. It helped me delayer a judgmental mind, and enabled me to embrace all cultures, people, and events of life. Being present, staying grounded, and understanding the value of human life, the mountains made me see things as they are; I trusted more and lived more.

In the years that followed, I spoke to many about the lessons I brought back from the mountains. In my role of building rewards programs that were based on human needs and aspirations, it helped me understand the important things and what moved and motivated people.

I have been an apt pupil and the mountains have thought me well. They have sparked a sense of adventure and explore the vast treasures or our planet.

As I setup the rewards program over the last two years at Micron’s India operations, I felt the same spirit of adventure as we transformed our products and engaged with people in ways that were meaningful ways. I have dedicated my time to study, design, structure and communicate a program that I hope will positively impact the lives of our team members and their families.

Here's to many more adventures and many more lessons – here’s to the mountains!?
