Have you ever had a bad day? I mean a REALLY bad day. A couple of weeks ago Bart the cat had a really bad day. Bart like many cats has not learned the “Look both ways before crossing before crossing the street” lesson. While crossing the street, Bart forgot to look and was tragically hit by a car. Not the start of the day Bart was looking for. Bart was found on the side of the street paws up by a family friend. The friend wanting to spare the family from the tragic image and emotional heartache of burying Bart. The friend buried Bart by the side of the road.
Five days later, hungry, thirsty and suffering from a massive headache, Bart dug himself up and returned home to a surprised family. It appears that the family friend should check to see if Bart is breathing before burying him. The family unable to afford veterinarian care brought Bart to the humane society where he is expected to make a full recovery. The staff at the humane society dubbed Bart “The Zombie Cat”.
What can we learn from Bart’s tragedy and return to life?
- Look both ways before crossing the street - Sure but we humans got that one down.
- Check for signs of life before digging the grave - Apparently not obvious.
- Tenacity trumps almost everything - Bart would not give up.
- Everything is relative - Bart’s bad day trumps most of our bad days.
So the next time someone cuts you'er off or your stuck in traffic just remember it is a picnic compared to what Bart had to deal with.
As the lucky parent of two rescue cats and long time supporter of the ASPCA I wanted celebrate the determination and spirit of Bart. Due to the press Bart has received their are several loving families lining up to adopt Bart.
