Lessons from two space travellers !

Lessons from two space travellers !

I once had the privilege of lunch with Frederick D. Gregory, a NASA astronaut and pilot of several space shuttle missions.?

I’m a child of the 70’s and grew up on a diet of Star Wars and NASA space shuttle missions, so was very excited to have the opportunity to sit down and talk with somebody who had such an incredible career.

After speaking about how he became an astronaut he went on to share the guiding principles he had used to manage his career, which were very simple . . .

Have Fun????&????Bring Value

Given we all spend so much time working, it’s important we enjoy our work, so we should make our work fun.

The second principle was to bring value, we have a duty to ensure we bring value to the organisations we work for, but also to those we work with.??The difficult part is recognising when you are no longer bringing value and move to the next challenge.

Ever since that lunch I have tried to live by these two simple principles and use them to guide my career, and how I live and work.

So why share this life lesson today???To answer that I turn to another famous space traveller,?“Always pass on what you have learned.” — Yoda

So in the spirit of having fun I would like to say . . .

May the 4th?be with you . . . have fun and bring value today.

Grant Courtney Great post and advice. Thanks for sharing! Someone I had the privilege of working for me had a goal of making at least three people laugh each day. Everyone always wanted to be on his projects because there was always positivity and fun ... and with fun came creativity ... and with creativity more was delivered which in turn drove more positivity and fun!
