Lessons from the Road
I was going to the office this morning and my office is at quite a distance 88.2 miles and for those that live in Kilometer Universe 141.9 kilometers (in case you’re wondering, no I don’t do it everyday). Any way as I was getting on the Highway I turned on the radio and heard that there was an accident and an oil spill and the traffic was at a standstill. Indeed, as I got closer that’s exactly how it was. I started to get stressed that I was going to be late for my weekly schedule meeting. I decided not to call into the office but to sit and see how it worked out. After while it cleared. Then the traffic started to flow well. After a while there was guy pulled over, so everyone including me must look over and say to ourselves poor Schmuck got caught. Traffic started to flow again, Then there was an Accident and it slowed down again. After which it started to flow again and it stayed that way until I got to Dumbarton bridge and those of who have travelled it know what I mean when I say it’s a parking lot most of the time, not today though, today it was flowing great. When I looked at my watch I was at my destination exactly the same time I usually get there.
My lesson from the trip today was that life is exactly like my road trip a series of events over which we stress. We fail to realize that Universe, God, Ram, Allah, Waheguru or what ever name you want to choose, for my atheist friends maybe force may work, is a great equalizer. It balances everything out in the end if we just learn to free flow a bit and let the journey happen. Enjoy the moment, pick our lane, select our favorite radio station and make sure our eyes are clearly set on our journey. And not envy the guy in the Porch, not feel better than the guy in the broken down Toyota Corolla and not forget to smile when we see the guy with the headphones on and his head whopping from side to side.
I learned that we would get there if we keep our cool, our eyes focused and not worry about the destination but concentrate on the journey and enjoy it. Life will take us to our destination, by stressing we are missing out on the fun that is the Highway of life.
