Lessons from The Old Sailor

Lessons from The Old Sailor

I’m a big fan of the poems of A.A Milne, the author of Winnie the Pooh.

One of my favourites is called The Old Sailor - you can read it below.?

I was reading the poem to my son the other day and realised (much as I do with many of his poems) that it was very relevant and applied to my daily?life.

The poem is about a sailor who, stranded on an island, starts to come up with a plan for survival, escape or rescue.

But, every time he starts with an element of his plan, he realises that it might be better to do something else first… and inevitably ends up doing nothing at all!

I think that many of us are faced with jobs, chores or to-do lists that seem never-ending…

And it’s not always easy to know where to start.

It sometimes helps if someone else can give you a steer or offer some thought on what you might like to begin with.

This is certainly true for me at home where housework, cleaning and chores, whether they be daily, weekly or less frequent, sometimes seem never-ending and so knowing where to start can be a challenge in itself.

If this sounds familiar to you and you’d like help or ideas on what to tackle first then give us a buzz – we can always help and sometimes, we might even be able to take some of these jobs off your hands!

(You can read The Old Sailor here)?

Speak soon,

Mel
