As passionate proponents of Girl Power, my daughter and I have been studying a wide collection of women through the ages who have been phenomenal in forging a path often unchartered.
When we awoke on Saturday, September 19th, the news of the recent passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, was initially one of sadness but soon morphed into a celebration of her life. Having just read a book about her last week we enjoyed all the highlights of her amazing journey and even discovered a few nuggets my daughter pointed out that made me smile:
The late Associate Supreme Court Justice was appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1993, as only the 2nd woman ever named to that position teaching us all that even when you are in the minority your voice and amazing intellect can move mountains!
She earned the nickname of the Notorious RBG and became known for working tirelessly to make the world a little better and a little freer.
Justice Bader Ginsburg was able with the support of her trainer 30 push-ups confirming that strength comes in all shapes and sizes.
Justice Bader Ginsburg was a lifelong lover of opera and made her operatic debut at the tender age of 83, this reminds us all that dreams can always come true!
She was a fashion- trendsetter with her ‘dissent pearls' and intricate lace collars proving you can never be too stylish and pearls go with everything!
She was known for being better at ordering and hosting than for cooking confirming that no matter how brilliant or acclaimed none of us is perfect!
While we never met, we are grateful for her heroic advocacy for gender equality and women's rights, paving the way for many in my generation and those of my daughter. Who knows maybe one day the look of the courts will be more inclusive as we all strive to align with the steps of the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg!
After all, history has proven that fearless girls with pearls and brilliant minds will get us closer to where we need to be!
Rest in Peace Justice Bader Ginsburg and Rise in Glory!
