Lessons from my journey of mastering Extra-ordinary Oration - Lesson #2

15 years ago, I started my journey of self-education on speaking mastery, and today here I am super excited to share my key learnings with you all. For the last 15 years, I have dedicated myself towards mastering the STAGECRAFT of public speaking—to learn the infallible science of Speechcraft; the irresistible art of Voicecraft and the invincible strategy of Mindcraft. For me the challenge fortunately was not to overcome stage-fright or the infamous fear of public speaking. I had been mortified enough for this lifetime! (check out my previous post to discover what triggered this journey of StageCRAFT Mastery when I was in high school!)

Speaking of the fear of public speaking, did you know that a research conducted by the Gallup Institute found that over 40% of the American population is afraid of speaking in front of an audience! 40%! But, if you think of it, what are they REALLY afraid of? What is this looming danger that we avoid with all our might lest we evolve from a voice to a vortex? Perhaps--An idea vortex!

Do you know what I believe we are afraid of? What we foresee as a threat to our silent soliloquies in the shadows?

It is not the fear of being judged; nor is it the fear of mock & jeer...

It is certainly not the fear of failure...

and nor is it the fear of freezing up there.

Because each of these so called fears can be conquered with training & practice. Then what are we really afraid of?

"I believe, it is not the fear of public speaking that restrains us. It is the tsunami that could come after!"

I think that each one of us deep in our soul, is terrified of the tsunami we may unleash-a tsunami of inspiration, a tsunami of passion, a tsunami of transformation or perhaps a tsunami of hope, of courage, of selfless love for each other. A tsunami we must eternally surf, because it is our voice that lies at its epicentre. So instead, we cower behind the seductive illusion of fear; yes illusion; because your fear of stepping up and speaking out is in fact the fear of discovering the true spirit, the true voice of your soul.

But what if you know how to present your thought and ideas with unrivalled confidence and conviction? Would you then give yourself the permission to stand up, speak out and enchant this world like only you can?

Context:

I believe, Stagecraft is the lovechild of the science of Speechcraft, the art of Voicecraft and the strategy of Mindcraft. And when we master these three fundamentals of public speaking, we then manifest our own unique brand of stagecraft.

Lesson #2:

Speechcraft is the science of crafting your speech; here we focus on WHAT you craft!

The art of wooing any audience is to take your idea from being information to inspiration, from beings just a message to a movement, and from a lesson to a legacy. You must SEASON your big idea with deep ideation and craft your talk such that it resonates with the deepest ideologies of your audience.
