I recently attended my first lacrosse game. This was also my first introduction to Trevor Baptiste, the faceoff specialist for the Atlas Lacrosse Club of the Premier Lacrosse League. He stood out, because, well, he looked like me. He is of Haitian descent. So I was drawn in like most people, by a similarity.
What happened next is I got to see him in action. Beyond the thrilling athletic performance, I couldn't help but reflect on the valuable lessons that can be derived from his approach to the game, particularly from an inclusion perspective.
In the realm of diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI), resilience plays a crucial role. Trevor's unwavering determination on the field reflects the resilience required in the DEI space. Just as he never gives up on securing possession during faceoffs, we must also exhibit resilience in our pursuit of a more inclusive society.
Trevor approaches each faceoff with unwavering focus, relying on his skills, strategy, and experience to outmaneuver his opponents. Similarly, in the DEI space, we must remain dedicated to challenging biases, dismantling systemic barriers, and promoting inclusivity in every aspect of our lives.

The faceoff in lacrosse is often regarded as the most critical moment of the game. Similarly, in the DEI space, the choices we make and the actions we take are pivotal in shaping a more inclusive future. Trevor's prowess in securing possession during faceoffs reminds us that every small action we take towards inclusivity can have a significant impact.
Furthermore, Trevor's ability to adapt to different opponents and game situations is a testament to the importance of flexibility and open-mindedness in fostering inclusivity. Just as he adjusts his technique based on his opponent's strengths and weaknesses, we must be willing to listen, learn, and adapt our approaches to create an inclusive environment that values diversity.
Trevor Baptiste's role as a faceoff specialist for the Atlas Lacrosse Club provides valuable lessons not only in the realm of lacrosse but also from an inclusion perspective. His resilience, dedication, adaptability, and unwavering commitment to securing possession during faceoffs serve as a powerful reminder of the qualities required in the DEI space. Let us draw inspiration from Trevor's example as we work towards creating a more inclusive society, one small action at a time.
