LESSONS FROM MOTHER NATURE

WEATHER SAY BENEVER: LIFE LESSON FROM THE WEATHER

It’s March. Yep. And we’ve experienced Rain, Sleet, Hail, Snow, and Sunshine all in the same month. Not to mention tornadoes, monsoons, and fire storms. Not to make light of the serious natural disasters that are happening all around us, but Mother Nature what’s going on? While the constant change in weather is not fun, there is a life lesson we can dig out from under the whirlwind of things. Look out and take cover to what’s mentioned below to make sure you're prepared for the change.

“The way up and the way down are one and the same. Living and dead, waking and sleeping, young and old, are the same.” - Heraclitus

What's the Deal?

We’ve heard it all before. The only thing in life that’s constant is change, so why not the weather. As human beings, we have this innate desire to want to be comfortable. You know what I mean. That warm and fuzzy feeling of contentment as we hide away and forget the stresses of this world. We call this “living” or “living the good life.” That’s our natural instinct of survival mode kicking in. We all want to survive right? Or live..the..good..life, but the weather swoops in and interrupts that feeling doesn’t it?

Why can’t we just have sunshine all the time? Well...not too much sun...just the one in the famous beach picture...you know the screensaver...the one with the palm tree and the lounge chair...Aaah, that’s the one...Life.? See what I mean?

What's the Reality?

The reality with this desire, we also know by nature, is the sun cannot stay shining all the time. Darkness is essential to sleep, exposure to light stimulates brain activity, too much activity results in burn out, and so on and so forth. That’s just one evidential example.

The funny thing about the way we’re wired, is that we’re constantly changing ourselves in order to regulate to our environment. When we’re too hot, our bodies adjust internally until it finds comfort or alerts us physically to go find comfort externally. If we’re too cold, it does the same thing. We even adjust mentally when we’re hot headed or feeling despair. We immediately seek out comfort to survive. By nature, we want to remain stable. Our entire being will fight to regulate itself until it finds comfort. This little internal thermostat is called homeostasis. Not to bore you with too much medical detail, but to wind it all back up, change is a recurring process that happens internally and externally; all around us all the time.

What Can We Learn?

So, what then can we learn from the weather? Life as we know it will continue to change. Seasons come and seasons go. If one accepts and understands that change is the only thing in life that is constant, then one will more easily recognize the quote above by Heraclitus from his ‘obscure’ writings claiming such things as, “The way up and the way down are one and the same. Living and dead, waking and sleeping, young and old, are the same.”

Moral of the Story: Change is Constant, so get used to it.

Word of advice to maintain your sanity, this too shall pass. Even the storm. Worry about those things you can change, and not the things you cannot.

I hope this message blesses you today and help you to go out and Live to Create!
