#27 - The Money-less Man

That we need money to live – like it or not – is a self-evident truism. Right? Not anymore.

Drawing on almost three years of experience as The Moneyless Man, Mark Boyle not only demystifies money and the system that binds us to it, he also explains how liberating, easy and enjoyable it is to live with less of it.

In this book, Mark takes us on an exploration that goes deeper into the thinking that pushed him to make the decision to go moneyless, and the philosophy he developed along the way. Bursting with radical new perspectives on some of the vital, yet often unquestioned, pillars of economic theory and what it really means to be ‘sustainable’ – as well as creative and practical solutions for how we can live more with less – Boyle offers us one of the world’s most thought-provoking voices on economic and ecological ideas.

In my opinion in a nutshell , He illustrates how its "Greed" is the key to all our problems .

We would have clothes and food for all if we just decided to reuse and mend existing clothes.

Our Crop focus would move from cotton to food and you can delete "Hunger"in the world gradually .

The other lessons he shares are general metaphors for a simple living with high impact. Here are a few that resonated with me .

1. Never Underestimate Others : They may resist your ideas and may try to influence your opinions. The more you are focused and in time you can show the difference of the road less traveled by you, they will come around slowly but surely. Keep the faith.

2. A half-way Path between money and Barter with currency of the Local Community . It kind of makes sense considering "Cost of living adjustments"we build in city to city. We have tied in different economies to the extent that one recession leads to a global recession.

3. Communal Sufficiency : Small groups of people like Tribes work in a interdependent manner. This also leads to better understanding as against the current structure where we dont need each other in local city communities unless its a crisis.

4. Essential Skills : i love this . Physical Fitness , Self Discipline , Genuine care and respect for the planet , Species on it , abilities to share and care. This would lead to a organic flow of receiving and giving.

5. Money is just one way of doing things. If we are going to look at the price of everything : We will lose the value of real things.

If we can look at Needs , we can do away with greed a little bit to have a better world ..

For that song of  Michael Jackson "We are the world"

For that to turn real , We need to build a half world of being "Moneyless "

We are a long way off road : The "Moneyless Man "through his experiments shows us some ways to get on road to have a better world .
