Lessons from Indian Wisdom: The Ultimate civilization: Earliest Science of Mankind

We Indians proudly say Bhaarat is an ancient and great civilization! When we say Bhaarat is one of the oldest civilizations, and the one that continues without any gap, surely the question is: What are the signs of a great civilization? Civilizations are about the development of Human beings and their lives. It is largely accepted that we were spiritually highly evolved but there is always a debate around Scientific temperament, isnt it? This article attempts to throw light around this aspect. (This is not an academic article but one to provoke general interest)

Rigved is considered our earliest sacred text but what exactly was it about? Rigved represents the earliest collection of Scientific knowledge of mankind – Knowledge which happened through keen observation, deep investigation and divine perception. The scientists then were called Rishis or “See-rs”, who could see what was visible through their eyes, and but also the invisible - though their inner eye of science.

1. The deep investigation led them to search for the Ultimate Cause of everything in existence in the Universe – surely every effect had to have cause, they reasoned. This is also the premise of modern science. Thus, for a manifested marvelous gigantic Universe such as ours, the question to ask was “who” or “what” is the Cause. In Sanskrit, this word is “Kah’? That itself became the epithet of the Almighty – the power behind all creation. (Later investigation led to the Kah forces in 3 forms – Brahma, Vishnu, Mahesh)

2. The next investigation showed that there while Space has multiple dimensions (three), the fourth dimension is of Time which provides the continuum since the Universe has always been and will be so. This space-time continuum got the name Aditi, recognized as the mother of all “Dev” (forces)

3. Continued investigation led to the realization that there is clearly an intelligence that runs through all Universal phenomena, thus causing the genesis of all the events taking place every single moment and place. This intelligence principle was named Daksha, the father

4. When space-time continuum is “married” with intelligence, then twelve categories of phenomena emerged. Being the offspring of Aditi, they were title Adityas

5. Many of these twelve categories have modern scientific equivalents, but some do not. We shall try to name the close equivalents. The first category is of gravitational experience of all bodies, called Dhata

6. The second one is the phenomenon of motion, called Aryaman

7. The third category are the phenomena of sound, called Rudra, which in turn have 11 offspring called Rudriyah (major and minor notes)

8. The fourth is called Mitr, the phenomenon of scattering

9. The fifth one was called Varun, the phenomenon of equilibrium, in the universe

10. The next category labelled Surya, is the occurrence of Radiation

11. The seventh category named Vivasvan, are the phenomena of light

12. The eight one is titled Bhaga, the events of division and subsequent transmission

13. The ninth is Pusa, that of nourishment. The offsprings of Pusa are the Ashvin twins

14. The tenth is Savita, the title for the occurrences of flow

15. The eleventh one is Tvasta, the multifarious phenomena of integration into “matter” We also know "him" as Vishwakarma

16. The twelfth one is specialized in instilling into and preserving the cosmic power in living beings. This is called Visnu

17. Asvins (offsprings of Pusa) are the twin phenomena of inhalation and exhalation

18. Tvasta produced eight offsprings called Vasus, which are eight chemical processes in nature – liquefaction, solidification, gasification, emanation, stickiness, heating, acidification and luminescence!

19. The demonstration of the scientific knowledge of RigVed became YajurVed, harmonization became SamVed and further applications, the Atharv Ved

20. The diverse manifestations of universal energy, the forces of Nature got personified as Indra, Agni, Vayu, Yam, etc, each with its own scientific detail.

Behold the discoveries of Eternal Bhaarat and its great Scientists! Shubh Bhartiya Swaadhinata Diwas to all!
