Lessons from Friends (cheaper than therapy)

When I embarked on the adventure of creating a series of Friends: Cheaper than Therapy events I set out to test some hypotheses. I was curious to know if we can apply wisdom from past generations to help solve the mental health crisis.
Our grandparents and their grandparents knew that mental wellbeing is one of the many benefits of being in a supportive community, along with a sense of belonging, purpose and sharing a laugh. And our First Nations people, the oldest continuing culture on the planet, know that every living and non-living entity is connected to each other and understood through story. We have so much to learn from their vast knowledge. It is the key to building a mentally fit future for all Australians.
Thanks to Tyson Yunkaporta whose book Sand Talk and his subsequent podcast series The Other Others have provided inspirational, illuminating, and enjoyable entry points into these old/new ways of being, thinking and doing.
