My lessons from the field

Although short and to the point (John's style and approach), there are definitely some points that I can find relatable and important personally.

“Take the chip off your shoulder”

One of my personal coaching values is to be ‘open-minded’ and this is something I always try remember. We do not know it all. There is no point trying to pretend as if we do. Whilst I believe ego can serve us in some regards (see my article ‘ego is NOT the enemy’) There is a LOT to be said by lowering your ego. This is where we learn. When we honestly reflect, we can see where we need to improve. When we get around people who are better than us, we learn MORE. I personally want to be around people who are better than me, much, much better than me, and remembering to take a chip off our shoulder is always great way to do just that. I think John definitely demonstrates this skillset well himself as he is always seeking to be around these people.

?

“A bit of WO-WO”

The term ‘wo-wo’ makes me laugh, and I find it great that John also takes an interest in ‘soft-energy thing stuff’ especially given his evident hard-hitting approach.

I always use the term ‘wo-wo’ and whilst it looks different for every single person, many years ago I would have spat my pint in your face if you ever mentioned some of the things that I have paid attention to over the last few years. I personally would say I have started focusing on the ‘spiritual’ aspect of my personal growth and mental wellbeing. I speak about it now with no shame and I believe it has most certainly supported me personally. It makes some people want to run a million miles in the opposite direction, but I find it fascinating personally.

Again, some things might be ‘wo-wo’ to a lot of people, but I personally find the idea of being part of something much bigger comforting, and not scary. There is something known as ‘Cosmic insignificance therapy’ (look it up) and it always provides me with moments of comfort when I find myself sweating over the less relevant details. In brief, it is that we are part of something much bigger. I find myself fascinated by human consciousness and I have explored with psychedelic substances in controlled environments, which again for me, were HUGELY profound. In my mams terms I was simply ‘off my head’ but this is because we all see the world differently. I will personally be continuing to explore my ‘wo-wo’ side and I love that John has his own approach to this too.

My experience with John

It is short and sweet this article. If you have not picked up on this through his answers, John is a ‘straight-talking’ 'to the point' type of coach. His tagline ‘Don’t be shit’ always makes me laugh and a number of people are aware of his truly authentic style.?

I have known John for a number of years now and whilst I would personally describe our personal philosophies to the field at completely different ends of the scale, I still always learn a lot from him. This is what it is about. You do not always need the same views and belief systems (It is what makes us human) BUT, there are always lessons to be learned.

From a personal standpoint, I do love spending time with John and whenever I leave, it is always with something to think of. We have had coffees together, stormed up Roseberry Topping and even spoke in the same room and events. We have similar interests in the great outdoors, but this is his full-time passion which is evident in his work.

It is great to see John’s business going from strength to strength and if you’re looking for someone to give you a 'no bullshit' kick up the arse approach to improving your mindset, whilst incorporating adventure, please check out.
