Lessons from fibertime? township fibre

Lessons from fibertime? township fibre

We put fibre internet into every home in townships. Every shack.?

It's not easy. So, why are we doing it?

We believe bringing affordable, uncapped fibre is the right thing to do. It's just not right that wealthy families have unlimited access to the power of the internet while the families that need it the most are blocked from it.?

This thinking is the root cause of our success thus far. That is why communities trust us. Our good intentions are genuine.

How are we getting it right?

Firstly, we care about the customer. We ask the customer, "What do you want?" If the customer wants hamburgers, we don't sell her hotdogs.?

Secondly, we're realistic. We might have high-minded ideals, but we get things done. We get our hands dirty. When there's a shack fire, we're on-site, helping. That's the ultimate way to build trust: We keep our promises.?

What are some of the big challenges we've overcome:

Electricity is the big one. We sell pay-as-you-go fiber. Our voucher sales are real-time. This means if the router isn't working, people don't buy vouchers.

We can't ignore load-shedding. We need to ensure our routers are powered when the lights are off. We solved that by installing UPS' with the router in the home. Not only did we solve the electricity problem, but we boosted revenue.?

It turns out that load-shedding also turns off the TV. During load-shedding, the only form of entertainment in our homes is fibertime?, which means we sell more vouchers.

The Faraday Effect is another big one. A corrugated iron shack is a Faraday Cage, which rejects radio waves. That means we have to install a router inside every single shack.?

No problem—we did it. The upside is that we now have an exact address for every home in Kayamandi, and the fibre speeds are ridiculously high! The Faraday Cage also works in reverse: The walls bounce back radio waves, which means the WiFi is extremely fast inside a shack ??.

Why do we solve these problems?

Of course, we care about our business. But that's not the reason we solve these problems.?

The reason we tackle every obstacle we encounter is because we genuinely care about our customers.?

We love the individual who has allowed us into their home to install a router, bought our vouchers, and uses our fibre to explore the infinite world of the internet, be it education, jobs, or just plain old cat videos on YouTube.??

We don't fake it.
