Hi! My name is Parissa. This is "Modern Badass: A Field Guide", where?Modern Badasses?can feel seen, understood and valued. And, it's also a place for others to crack the code on the Modern Badasses in their lives (and maybe learn some badassery themselves). Want this in your inbox 2x/month? If you're a Depeche Mode fan, as I am, you're well aware that "Enjoy The Silence" is the title of a song on their Violator album. I don't ever get tired of hearing it or (badly) singing along to it.
The song is essentially about "less is more" in a relationship. Talk is cheap and the contentment in just "being" with the one you love is the focus of the song. It's a celebration of essentials and of slowing down.
As you know, going 80MPH in a 45MPH zone is one of the hallmarks of a Modern Badass. You may have read that in one of my articles, seen it in this post or maybe even read it in my book. So, the concept of "being" and slowing down is one of the hardest things for Badasses to learn.
Case in point, here are some things I've experienced lately which have stretched my patience's limits:
You could call these a series of unrelated (and annoying) events. Maybe even a stroke of bad luck.
Sure, it could be a coincidence...
...but I doubt it. As a matter of fact, my gut tells me there's a story within. My gut is telling me that it's time for me to be in "being" even though I've done an excellent job of learning the gift of "being" on this badassery journey of mine. It's also telling me that it doesn't matter if the picture isn't clear (yet) and to believe that it will be soon enough.
A gift of badassery is that our spidey sense is off-the-charts excellent. Badasses have a keen ability to piece together seemingly "random" events or things. We're not always sure what the piecing together is in service of AND we believe it will become evident to us. Badasses know better than to doubt our intuition as it's one of our distinguishing characteristics.
And, because we're human, we don't always see "signs" for what they are. An effective way to tap into this intuition superpower consistently is to value silence and recognize its enjoyment. How do we do this?
