Lessons from the Ballpark: Being a Team Player at Work
This weekend was supposed to be all about baseball for my son. He was hyped up for his tournament, ready to hit home runs and make amazing plays. But life threw him a curve ball. In the first game, he got benched. And just when he thought things couldn't get worse, he ended up breaking his finger, ruling him out for the rest of the tournament. Ouch, right?
Now, here's the amazing part. Instead of sulking or begging to leave, he stuck around. From the bench, he became the team's number one cheerleader, snapping pics and shouting encouragement like it was the seventh game of the World Series.
Watching him, I couldn't help but think about how we (mostly myself) handle setbacks at work. Because let's face it, we all get benched sometimes. Maybe you don't get picked for a project, or you don't hit your quota while others blow theirs out of the water. It's easy to get down on yourself and become negative.
But what if we took a page from my son's playbook? What if we turned those bench moments into opportunities to be the ultimate teammate? Instead of moping, we could rally around our coworkers, offering support and lifting them up. Imagine the impact if we all cheered each other on with the same genuine enthusiasm my son showed from the sidelines.
In a world where it feels like it's every man for himself, being a team player sometimes gets overlooked. But my son's weekend at the ballpark was a powerful reminder of just how important it is. So the next time you find yourself on the bench at work, remember his example. Stay positive, support your team, and who knows? You might just end up hitting a home run when it matters most.

1 年This is such a great learning tool. Sometimes our goals and wants get in the way. You figure out when you’re on a team or part of any team, non sports related, that if we all chip in, we make the TEAM better. When we do this and find our roles, minimal as they sometimes may be, it pays dividends in the end. Sometimes not getting exactly what we want makes us better people in the end. This is an amazing story. I love it. Way to show up!!
