Lessons from Ballet: Shining a light on each other

I was incredibly fortunate to be able to watch the recent "Pas de Deux in Paradise" performed by The Australian Ballet. Not only are the ballet company world class, it was outdoors at sunset and it was at the water's edge.

Any one of those three experiences (ballet, sunset, beach) is quite exceptional in its own right. But when the three are brought together well, the result is awe inspiring. The timing of the performance was meticulously planned to coincide with the sunset, to deliver the amazing visual. The increase in awe was not additive, it was exponential. We didn't watch a performance, we witnessed a magical moment - one I will never forget.

I am also fortunate to work at a firm that has many exceptional people, and this reminded me to make space to allow those people to shine. Sometimes I may be the dancer, sometimes I could be the sunset, but it's also an honour to sometimes be the stage and create the opportunity to elevate others.
