Lessons in Branding and Fatherhood: Celebrating Consistency and Authenticity

B2B companies can learn a thing or two from my dad when it comes to building a strong and long-lasting brand.

Successful companies truly understand their identity and what sets them apart. They not only embrace their unique qualities but also express them through on-point branding and impactful campaigns.

My dad possessed remarkable gifts. He was not only handsome, confident, and an exceptional athlete but also had numerous opportunities in the sports world. He earned a football scholarship to the University of Maryland and even received an offer to play in the minor leagues for the Braves. However, he made a conscious decision to prioritize a life beyond sports. He knew academics weren't his passion, so he turned down the scholarship. And after a few seasons with the Braves, he realized that the sports lifestyle wasn't what he truly desired. Instead, he wanted to live life on his own terms and find joy in his own way. Throughout his life, he consistently made choices that aligned with his fulfillment, never looking back. His authenticity and self-awareness were always on point.

My dad set the standard for consistency. He dedicated his entire career to the Department of Defense, adhering to a set routine of leaving and arriving home at the same time every day. Remarkably, he never took a sick day in his 35-year tenure. Just take a moment to reflect on the dedication that requires! He embodied strength and stability, providing me with an immense sense of security and empowering me to take bold risks, such as starting my own business as a single mom just shy of my 40th birthday.

Although my dad, Michael A. Collins, passed away nearly four years ago, his memory lives on in my heart and mind. His exceptional fatherhood, marked by being consistently present and on point, spans over five decades. His influence will forever be a part of me.
