A Lesson in Tragedy

Psalm 90:12 “Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom”
As I received the news yesterday taking down my Christmas decorations, I was struggling to cope with what I just heard. I told myself, “This must just be one of those fake tabloids sending out click-bait.” I mean, he was just passed by LeBron James on the all time scoring list just 13 hours prior and sending his praise towards the future Hall of Famer. But shortly thereafter, it was confirmed true. A childhood sports idol of mine was gone in a flash.
KOBE.
A four letter word that is now transcendent.
His name recollects memories of fade-away jump-shots to seal a game, a mindset of work ethic embodied in the #mambamentality , and a boy that grew into a man through learning some of life’s tough lessons.
He was not perfect, but was admired for always striving to be great in everything he did. He strived to be an inspiration. In the worlds eyes, he finished better than he started.
When I encounter the death of a loved one, friend, or someone I connect deeply with. There is another four letter word that rings deep within my soul.
TIME.
Psalm 90:12 says "Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom."
Kobe, like many of us, woke up and proceeded on his normal routine. Woke up. Ate breakfast with his family, and was headed to a basketball game with his daughter Gigi. He was not thinking of what the leading headline on every news channel would later be, “NBA legend and daughter die in helicopter crash.”
As his life seemed untouchable of sorts, it was not untouchable from the one who goes before us and behind us. God had a plan for his life on earth, and he also has a plan for those impacted by his passing.
Teach us Lord to number our days, and may we have a #mambamentality in how we use it.
RIP #24
I think you summarize some of the thoughts we have all had since we heard. Great perspective.

5 年Well said Parker.? Great reminder for us all regardless of our circumstances.? As a buddy of mine says, "We don't know what our future holds, but we know Who holds our future" and we must find comfort in that.? We are all terminal and have an end date.? Some sooner than others.? Are we being the best spouse, parent, sibling, employer, employee, and most importantly, follower & ambassador of Christ we can be.? More than likely not.? Thank you for this reminder and perspective.
