"This lesson took me years to learn."

As a leader, I used to think that my role was to have all the answers. I'd listen just enough to respond, offering solutions and guidance right away. But over time, I realised that this approach wasn’t as effective as I thought.
The real turning point came when I learned to listen—not to respond, but to understand. When you focus on truly hearing what people are saying, you gain insight into their challenges, ideas, and motivations. This approach has transformed my leadership and decision-making.
By listening to understand, I’ve been able to make more thoughtful decisions, build stronger relationships, and lead teams that feel heard and valued. The result? Better outcomes, more trust, and a deeper impact on the company’s success.
If you’re in leadership, I encourage you to stop waiting for your turn to speak and start really listening. It’s a game-changer.

4 周Great advice Richard. Too much decision making is taken in isolation. With leaders not listening, or even bothering to speak to those with experience. It generally comes back to haunt them.
I help insurers and MGA's increase their underwriting profitability leveraging proven technology.
4 周Excellent insight Richard. ??
