Lesson to the Past

We have all enjoyed reminiscing in the past from time to time especially with those that we have had many years of shared history. Whether we meet for a cup of coffee or a trip to a pub down the road, it may involve hours spent soaking in; what or how it was? carrying with it enormous sense of familiarity, having a good laugh on a silly anecdote of the cherished times. It is immensely gratifying to make virtual visits to those experiences as an escape from the mundane routines by taking a pause in the shadow of priceless memory that will bring a smile to our face making the day look brighter for it. It is infectious and therefore unassumingly may trigger a chain of recollections that may take us down the rabbit hole, and some of the readers may already be sifting through the Top 20 Hits in the library of their conscious minds. Smiles….

Many of us consider it healthy to indulge in reliving joyfulness of the memoirs on regular basis to keep a spark alive, naturally making it easy and understandable that we gravitate often to those remembrances. However, the consideration we fail to lend to these thoughts is that though momentarily heartwarming sometimes they steer us also to the unhealthy associations of the past keeping us entombed in the limitations of that former life. The transition of such connotations is not a surprising development when the minds start dwelling in the what ifs? decisions that were not taken or taken, could’ve [should’ve], overthrows etc.

Amidst those past experiences our accustomed mind seeks solace in staying static almost motionless in the constant loop hindering our propensity and readiness to move forward. The mind may trick us to think we want to recreate those moments with once friends and possibly now strangers, or friends and family. My observation points to a much simpler explanation, that the deepest desire in our heart is to feel the sensation felt at that time almost a million years ago which was entrenched in pure joy and true happiness. The people associated may or may not be important to the feeling our consciousness remembers and that is the distinction we need to ponder to reach our full potential.

Therefore, if you find yourself playing the same scene over and over in your mind which leaves you saddened rather than joyous, then take it as a sign that it could be urging you to dig a little deeper. Essentially once we decide to examine the phenomenon in depth to uncover the imbued relevance and significance of the memories visited most frequently, the wheel really start moving in our favor. The golden nuggets we treasure, or push away, or suppress with all our might, not realizing that they have a story to tell and unless we are willing to listen as well as place due importance they will continue to resurface at the most inopportune time. This typically may point us to the right direction indicating that either we did or did not prioritize to honor the true version of ourselves. I did stumble upon a beautiful quote which deeply resonate with me as I embarked on the wonderful journey of self-discovery in recent times and would love to share it here in the hope that those looking to find the essence of discovering their true north may appreciate it as much as I did.

Memories are the KEY, not to the past but to the FUTURE.
Corrie Ten Boom

The pure joy that we are all seeking by evoking memories is simply an authentic expression of our inner child nourished at the time in those wonderful experiences. I imagine this to be an extremely powerful idea and the sole reason our spirit brings it to our attention by repeatedly taking our conscious thoughts to help us listen to the longing at the core of our being. Assuredly, we will find it tremendously refreshing to witness when we direct our efforts in influencing our life in the present to manifest a future filled with limitless streams of joy and true happiness beyond our own beliefs. The valuable lesson recommended to be drawn from the past is to look past taking the nectar in the nostalgia, instead taking the INSPIRED ACTION to create the expression of pure joy in the present moment to nurture that inner child once again. Your future self will thank you for it and you will start the wonderful journey of Self-love to transform your own life.
