The lesson my laptop taught me in 2014

The below was written back in 2014. Hence, don't judge me with the silly activities i have done. Because I am still the same.

Last Friday is when my laptop tasted hot tea for the first time ever. Well, to be honest I was frenzied thinking of the Down South trip that I am to go the next day. So did the sweet tea. My only concern was the difficulty to hide the online games tab whenever the manager passes by. I decided to request a new one from the IT dept. Apparently, I was the luckiest employee to realize that we ran out of extras. Good things happen to me, I know.

Brave me, had to manage with the sticky, handicapped and the most sweetest laptop for a week. The option of carrying an external keyboard into the office was bit awkward. So here I am to attend the weekly progress meeting ‘naked’, as in no laptop, not literally. With a traditional Atlas Chooty pen and a notebook. (btw didn’t meant to promote the brand of the pen). Being a young chap, I know that was a plucky budge.

Out of sarcasm, it was productive. I was fully focused during the session. It was the second meeting I was fully awake (first was my induction meeting). I couldn't believe I was that attentive to a normal meeting. It was a miracle indeed.

1. Take me all over: Everyone loves to be busy during the meeting where we reply to the morning mails, especially Facebook notifications on our previous post. “ok you, what do you think about this?” everyone turns their heads towards me after boss raises that voice. After intentional silence of 15 seconds, typical me would blabber “hmm…as Mr.XXX says…”

Inversely, I was in contact from A to Z. Now laptop has enabled me to get in, instead of loosing me out. Laptop gives us the world’s easiest way to get distracted from the outside world. Wanna know the secret to get rid of? Close the shining screen mate.

2. Don’t you dare: It isn’t good when someone is speaking and others are continuously staring at the lighted screen. Well the laptops will agree on me. The most primary respect one can offer is to listen and engage with his/her conversation. Of course there are other reasons of having a laptop such as presentations and report sharing, and for endless good for nothing meetings with no reason. C’mon let’s do it. You don’t need it most of the time yaaar!

Please do mind about the respect you receive by giving the due respect to others. After all there is a consequence to your action.

And at present, I strict myself not to use that screen during meetings after the most anticipated new laptop from IT. It would simply be only if I pull myself to write articles on this platform.
