LinkedIn might not be a place for football, but certainly is for stories of success.
And here's the most recent one.
After a troubled Euro2016 start, 20 something days ago, Portugal national team's coach Fernando Santos said in a Press Conference:
"I'll be going home on the 11th of July only. And better yet, I'll be going to celebrate the trophy".
And it happened: Portugal became European Champion.
Portugal didn't played an attractive football, but was terribly efficient. Ronaldo wasn't at its best, but still managed to score 3 decisive goals, a beautiful one with his heel, another one from the clouds. And when Portugal needed him the most, he picked the right penalties shooters, got injured and still managed to coach from the sideline.
And everybody cussed an entire country and told the portuguese off and said Portugal shouldn't even be at the Final. Still, Portugal won.
Yes, without winning any of the group matches. Beating Croatia in Extra Time only. Beating Poland on the penalties shootout only. Beating Wales, the surprise team, in the semis and the ultra favourite France in the Final, in Extra Time. The team really came together and if there's a word to describe them is "resilient". And that's all due to Santos' belief.
Portugal won, because no one was able to beat Portugal's vision.
Leadership is all about having that vision and prevailing against everything and everyone. Against all odds, Portugal achieved, for the first time ever, success.

8 年Is the only team who do the prefect analyses of is contenders and play accordingly , each match play with different strategy, take for example the final where the French team can not play better because our strategy was better, is like in our daily work, for each work and different environment we must use different and adapted methodologies to achieve our goals. Congratulations for all involved people on this important victory for our (Big Nation)

8 年Brilliant post Frederico, without a vision you cannot be a leader and without a clear objective you have nothing to work towards. True leaders successfully rally their teams behind them by involving everyone in this common objective. It’s the team that wins it in the end, but it’s the leader that must project the vision in a way to achieve the ‘buy-in’ from each individual as to how to get there. Far from discrediting the team, Fernando Santos clearly did this better than any other of his counterparts at Euro 2016. Mission accomplished!
