A lesson I've learned on being judgmental

A lesson I've learned on being judgmental

I’ve met several people in my career that I thought were assholes. And once upon a time I would have labeled the person as such and figured out a way to avoid them.

But now I lean in. I like to get to know these assholes. And some of them really are… but MOST are actually awesome people. They simply know what they want, they have systems and processes in place and simply want/need people to follow those guidelines.

Many of these people have A TON of individuals tapping on their shoulder or trying to circumvent the systems they have put in place, to stop people from doing exactly what you might be doing. Part of being a good partner is doing what the other partner needs, and supporting them to the best of your ability. That’s true in our personal and professional lives. So the next time you think someone’s being an a**hole, first ask yourself if you’re being a good partner. Are you aware of what’s important to them and why? What their systems are and why? And how you fit into that world? If you don’t know those answers, then back the truck up and stop being one yourself. = )

It helps to walk some one else’s shoes before you judge. Good lesson and wonderfully written. Thanks for opening my eyes!

Sorry you felt that way about me!
