A Lesson from a Teapot

In Devon there are two train stations that have caught my attention.

One has a book vending machine.

The other has a tiny shop which serves tea made in a teapot.

A weekend trip led me to order a tea made from the said teapot.

I initiated a conversation with the guy who worked there.

24 years he’d been there, serving tea in a teapot.

Wow, I said.

He thanked me. He was proud of his tea.

￡1.50 for a large tea too.

Wow, I thought.

At home he told me had a tea cosy.

Reminded me of my late Grandma.

I thanked him and he wished me a good day.

I boarded my train thinking about the man serving tea from the teapot.

He lit up with my interest in him and the tea.

I wasn’t overcharged.

Plus the tea was great.

So next time I have the opportunity, I’m going to make sure I make time for the conversation.

Remind myself that while I’m not an influencer or a big brand, I still can make a difference.

Whatever you are doing, love it like the man with the teapot who loved his job.

His energy set me up for a great day.
