Lesson from the subway

Lesson from the subway

Our local subway lets people jump the turnstiles without paying.

My daughter and I counted 18 people who didn't pay their fare.

Guess what? I didn't have enough money on my farecard. We were returning home after a trip five time zones away, so my jet-beleaguered brain was mushy as a bowl of overcooked peas.

While others jumped the turnstiles, I approached the station manager in his glassed-in perch. I wasn't going to jump the turnstile for many reasons--one being my suitcase, which was the size of a small car.

The station manager waved me through. So I squeezed through the gate while dragging my overpacked suitcase behind me.

"He let you through after you asked?" my daughter asked.

This experience had me thinking about the benefits of asking a guide for help. When you have clear directions from a guide you trust, you know what to do next. If you want to accomplish something, find the right guide.

And maybe that's part of the reason I created the free?Dream Book Launcher Check. The Check gives personalized answers on the best next step for your nonfiction book after you answer 17ish questions in 3-4 minutes.

You're the best!
